Kansas City voters overwhelmingly voted to renew the city’s one percent earnings tax (“e-tax”) last week. The e-tax must be renewed every five years, and every renewal is a critical moment for the city: the e-tax funds nearly half of the city’s budget and pays for vital services ranging from first responders to trash pickup and snow removal.

In partnership with a coalition of civic organizations, labor unions, and community leaders across Kansas City, Convergence developed a comprehensive paid media campaign in support of renewal, including direct mail, digital, and print advertising highlighting the e-tax’s benefits and the consequences of a failed renewal. We were gratified to work as part of an outstanding team of local and national consultants who helped deliver a better than three-to-one victory for this critical question on Election Night.
